Have you ever wound up expecting one thing, and then getting the complete opposite, even though you have proof otherwise?  That happened to my wife and me today.

My wife went into labor with our second baby early this morning. Prior to this, we have had two ultrasounds to take a look at the baby. Every single one showed proof that it was going to be a little girl (would be my second). Today, we were in the birthing process, and, all of a sudden, we heard the doctor (mind you--the SAME doctor who administered the second ultrasound at 30 weeks to confirm the gender) shout out "it's a boy!"

At this point, my wife and I were both looking at ourselves going "yeah, right"  at the doctor, thinking she was pulling a joke on us.

All of a sudden, she holds the baby up, and my wife and I were like:

So, with that being said, here's my little man and (hopefully) future rock nut, Michael Sean Arendt:

The little blonde-haired girl is my daughter Gabby. Contrary to the picture, she is very happy; she just doesn't hold a smile long enough for the camera to finish the picture.

Everyone is in great shape afterwards. My wife isn't in nearly as much pain as she was after the birth of our daughter, and the baby is doing exceptionally well, and is taking after the old man, finding that there isn't a nap that he doesn't flat-out enjoy.

that's awesome. Congratulations!

You know, when I read the subject line I figured it was something like that  :icon_biggrin:

Congrats to your brand new bouncing  :blob7: bundle of joy.
I saw both my girls (as we say Pop out) at birth, I reckon there is nothing more memorial in life.

Ok so your daughter isn't smiling in the pic's, But she has the most gorgeous eyes.

Now for the years of sleepless nights.  :laughing7:

Glad all are well .....
Cheers  :occasion14:

Congrats!

...But what I think we all wanna know is how long it took you both to choose a name for the "surprise baby?"  Given he was supposed to be a she, I assume you were quite unprepared?  :cool01:

That's pretty awesome man, congrats... :icon_thumright:

My wife is in PA. at the moment with her youngest daughter awaiting the birth of grand kid #4, supposedly "a girl" also. I guess won't really know until the day arrives...

That's awesome! Congrats to all of you.

My daughter is 5 months old now. I remember very well checking if she was indeed a girl right after she popped out. During the ultrasound they said more or less: "It's a girl, I think. Yes, I'm pretty sure" which didn't sound very convincing and we only had girl names at birthtime. Sure, we did have a few boy names just in case but they weren't as thoroughly thought over as the girl names.

All the best!

Hi Guys--

Thanks for all the kind words!  Finding a male name wasn't an issue, due to the fact that my name is Mike, my dad's name is Mike, my grandpa's name was Mike, and my great-grandpa's name was Mike. There aren't any middle names shared, so its not like "Charles Emerson Winchester III" or anything like that. My little girl is very excited to not only have a little brother (like I mentioned when I sent the pics, she doesn't hold a smile long for a camera, and my mother-in-law took the pics with her old digital camera), and is excited that my mom and dad took her to Wisconsin for a week. He was discharged yesterday, but he has to be exposed to UV light for a couple of days due to jaundice. Not a big deal, but it is kind of odd to see a glowing tube coming from a baby's back.

Ohh, and Max, to answer your question, I'm not going to say. My middle initial is G, and I was named after my dad's uncle, who was born just after WWI, and I think at this point, my great-grandparents were running out of American-sounding names, so they went with something either Belgian or Catholic-sounding. The name is REALLY something you'd never associate with being a guy's name.

Congratulations. Be the role model you want your kid to turn into and don't let him listen to Lady Gaga. He'll be a beast.
