all maple needs a finish, so the type won't effect the feel. The finish will be what makes the neck feel coarse, gummy, or slick. So plain maple's just fine if you don't mind the looks.
Flame Maple is more of a visual advantage it is just beautiful!! Quarter sawn is up for debate. Some feel that quarter-sawn wood displays greater stability. I have not had problems with necks that are not quarter sawn.
well no matter what i'm going with the satin finish, i've played epiphones/gibsons and they feel stick to me but fender i find great.
I'm just debating whether i want flame/plain maple, at least i know now the only difference is feel
also the flame maple only comes with abalone inlays (on showcase) and not i want them since they won't match paintjob
that is if they are green, which is the way they look in the pics
