Having done a dozen builds in the rear view mirror, I thought I’d throw the hat in the ring with this build from 2019. I’ve named all my builds and in a tribute to Warmoth there is a W in each name. This one is named Purple Wuilt, for the Purple Heart wood and the Quilt top.
Started with this gorgeous VIP body that Warmoth had built and put on the site. I then custom ordered a purple heart fretboard neck. It was the first of 4 purple heart fretboard builds. All of the custom order necks I’ve ordered have the Diamond inlays, ivory binding, 6105 SS frets, Tusq nut and side dots. Used purple heart for the fretboard, pup rings, TRC and toggle switch tip. Electronics are Lindy Fralin P-92 pups, 500k/250k pots, 3300pf tone caps and a treble bleed circuit.
A couple of my signature features for builds is using concentric pots and a latching kill switch. The CTS concentric pots do not have a long threaded shaft so, I have to countersink them from the inside. I made a little jig that holds a wood dowel such that I use a Forstner drill bit in a drill press and basically drill down in the body wood until I hit the top wood. Everything gets shielded.
I also tape a parts list to the inside of the cavity cover, just to remember what the heck I used years after the build. Details are on the Warmoth sheets and the parts list.
