Hey there!

I've been getting a lot of info from one guy on here (thanks dude!) about Super Reverb and now I'm interested in the general consensus on what is reasonable asking price.

The one I'm interested in is a 1967 Blackface Super Reverb with original transformers, reverb tank, and speakers.  Shop wants $2500 for it.
The amp seems to be in excellent working condition and for an amp that old it is cosmetically pristine.  It's gonna take me a long time to save up the clams!

Is this thing overpriced?  Or is that number totally normal considering it's great condition etc.  ?

If it's still in the shop by the time I save up the bills, I'm sure I could offer them $2200 if I had cash in hand.  Anyhoo - opinions welcome
:dontknow:

I personally think that's quite overpriced.  I'd expect to pay between $1000 and $1500 depending on condition.

BTW - a super is a LOT of amp.  Just sayn'  :)

For that vintage, Mayfly's estimate sounds right to me, given good condition.

You have to be careful with older stuff. Some folks put artificially high prices on things just to see what'll happen. Then, you have your fanatics who think age=$$, which in real life is only rarely true. There are a lot of old amps/guitars out there that would best serve as bonfire fuel whose owners think they're sitting on some sorta gold mine.

But, don't listen to me. I'm old enough to have been around for a lot of what's considerd "vintage" today, so I'm not impressed with the stuff. For me,

I have a Super Reverb from a little earlier than that and I paid about $2000 Australian for it back in the days when an American dollar bought you about $2 Australian. So $2500 feels a little high.

That said, you can never really pay too much for a Super Reverb*. I love mine to bits and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. I'd second the warning that it's a lot of amp though. Mine gets too loud for a suburban home at about 3.

*Warning! Hyperbole! You absolutely can pay too much for a Super Reverb.

Oh yeah... I'm well aware it will peel the paint off the walls and get the cops called on me.  But I just can't get enough of that fat and creamy vintage tone!!!!!  The '67 is the closest I've come to getting my guitar to sound like vinyl - thats kind of my ultimate tone goal.

I'll probably use an attenuator for low volume situations.

Go on Reverb.com and there are a bunch of them for sale. You can check the prices there and you will see many Blackface Supers in the $1500.00 range. The cleaner the amp and the more original the speakers the higher the cost.

I think a Super Reverb is one of the best deals in the vintage amp world right now. Everyone thinks the're to loud and heavy and the little amps like the Deluxe and Princeton Amps are all the rage right now. First get yourself a roadie and quit your crying :laughing7: or buy a dolly. They are only loud if you turn them up loud.

Turn all your tone pots off and turn the volume up to 8 or 10 and there is no volume coming out of the amp at all but the tubes are cooking and sounding sweet. Now plug your beautiful custom made Warmoth guitar in with those fancy custom wound pickups and turn the treble up on the amp until it has the appropriate volume for the room (usually not more than 3 and even less in a small room). You can add a small amount of bass and mid but as you turn those up the volume will increase. Now pretend your are Ronnie Earl, SRV, Derek Trucks, Marcus King or the best version of yourself and  :headbang4:

I think the reason the shop is asking $2500 for theirs is because this particular one is in such great condition and according to them, has all original parts including OG speakers.  I also bet they would take a little bit less for it, but they set a high price for wiggle room.  I've looked at many SR's on reverb and the ones in best condition with OG parts are going in the neighborhood of $2200.

Now it's in the stores basement with my name on it and I only need to pay 16 more to take it home.  I knew this was the one and had to jump on it.  It's an Absolutely Superb! Super Reverb Blackface 67.  The real thing baby!

The shop lady was super chill and gave me a mega slash on the price!

:headbanging:

It seems I nly like 4x 10 amps if it has 10 inch speakers. I had both a silverface super reverb and a reissue bassman and I loved them but any other amp with 10's  to me sounds  weak to me. I loved the tiltback legs on mine and the reverb. Great amps good luck with it mine was called the great white elephant because I was living in the barracks at the time and having such an oversized and was a bit much.

If you have a chance or an opportunity to play on a 3x10 bandmaster, do it!  A really interesting amp with a unique tone.
