Hehe!

Nothing pisses off an incumbent legacy player more than honest, legitimate competition. If they weren't already in trouble with the DOJ, they'd probably be lobbying for some sort of carve-out in the regulations to allow them to do things nobody else is allowed to do, re: imports. Then, they'd be dumping money on the FTC and the USTR to prevent anything from coming from overseas, where it's been shown they can be out-performed by just about anybody for an order of magnitude less money. Locally, they're already pushing for protections they shouldn't be allowed from top-notch performers like Warmoth.

They're pitiful, I guess is what I'm trying to say. If they made a superior product at a reasonable price, they wouldn't have anything to worry about. But, they can't, so they litigate. It's sad. Nobody wins but the lawyers. As far as Gibson's concerned, players, workers, shareholders et al can all be damned. Bleed 'em all, and let God sort 'em out.

Yep. I'm embarrassed and ashamed for speaking out in defense of Gibson the last time they got raided. They deserve every bit of Karma that comes upon them...

A friend of mine built one and its awesome. Fit and finish were impeccable. Frets were nice. I am seriously going to get one.  :headbang1:

I've done one as well. Mine was a single cut jr with a tonar finish. Top quality kit. Top quality guitar.

Wow, I had never heard of these guys before.  Been a while since I was on the forum but I picked a good day to drop back in.  Now I've got a serious case of GAS.  I wonder if they will cut a neck from a rosewood blank if I provide one - will have to ask them.  A set neck Les Paul to my specs with a rosewood neck...  Will also have to see if they can hold off on the fretting so I can put in some stainless steel.  If so, I'll need to break out the the credit card sharpish before Gibson do any more damage.    How would you rate the body and neck compared to Warmoth parts?  Is it equivalent or better?  That's the best benchmark I can think of.

Cheers.

They will do custom work...but it will cost you.  Just e-mail Phil.

They currently have stainless frets as an option.  Quality is top notch.  I think Warmoth has slightly better finish fret ends, but that is being real picky.  The wood I have recieved has been great.  Their Ebony fingerboards are real nice too.

Hi Guys,

Just heard back from Phil and thought I would share: they will use a customer supplier neck blank, including rosewood.

They won't do stainless steel anymore: apparently it wrecks their tooling - not the first time I've heard that.

So good news and bad news.  On the plus side, they will supply the neck with the fret slots cut and ready to go so that's half the battle right there.

Now I just have to find a supplier who will cut a rosewood neck blank to their specifications.  A quick look around at the ready made blanks shows that none are to spec (probably because Precision use a long tenon).

Any chance someone on the board can recommend a good supplier for custom cut neck blanks?

Cheers.

Shoot, If they still did stainless frets, I'd figure out how to get a hunk of wenge sent to them and start making my dream Goldtop Lester.  Guess I'd just have to find someone to do stainless fret installs...
Patrick

Yep, I know a guy who can do the stainless install so I should have that base covered.  The tricky part looks to be finding the right neck blank.  The dimensions they require look to be pretty non-standard.  It's a long tenon one piece neck, the headstock "wings" aren't glued on.  No luck so far.  May actually have to pick up the phone and talk to people for a change...

Talk... to... an actual person? In this age of technology? Sir, this is madness!

On topic now, serious face.  :tard:

I wonder exactly how much customization they are willing to do. Honestly, aside from the stainless frets, I wouldn't mind a 16" radius [akin to ESP Eclipse] or schaller tuning holes. I did notice that they drill 10mm holes but I fear that is just slightly too big. I guess I could do 8mm and file it now that I think about it. Meh, doesn't hurt to email I suppose.

That said, this isn't helping my INTENSE desire for a fire burst LP.

I've never understood the "stainless wrecks my tools" attitude. I do stainless almost exclusively and have never had that problem. You have to buy better tools, but why wouldn't one do that anyway? It only costs a little more to go first class, and you're rarely sorry. Buy a cheap tool, and it'll not only fight you, you'll have to replace it early on. Makes 'em pretty expensive. Good tools seem expensive, but when you consider that you only buy them once, they're pretty cheap.

I do the same thing in the kitchen. Get some high-quality Japanese knives like Shuns or Tojiros, All-Clad or Henckel pots/pans, Kitchen Aid appliances, etc. and you can take over the world. Anything less is a constant battle and it's tough to have any fun.
