in my jazzmaster i have only volume/tone/pickup selector controls. none of the other controls which are traditionally found on standard jazzmasters.

so what pot value would be ideal for jazzmaster pickups?

jazzmaster pickups are single coils right? so why are 1 meg pots used for them?

appreciate the feedback.

The higher the value of the pot, the less signal you lose. The problem is, you need a pretty special taper to get such a high value to work. The likelihood of finding such a taper is pretty slim. 500K is about the best you can do and still get it to behave like a volume pot instead of an on/off switch.

i can't understand anything in this man. what's with jm pickups to need a "special taper" etc? can't you use 500k pots for them just like hbs or p90s?

I doubt there's anything special about Jazzmaster pickups. But, with a very high resistance volume pot, you'd get slightly more high end out of the pickup(s). Fender was always big on ice-pick-in-your-ear clarity back when the JM was designed. I only call the 1M log (audio) taper pot for a guitar "special" because at that resistance, even a log taper pot would behave sorta like a linear pot. That is, you'd have all your control between 1 and 2, and the rest of the rotation would sound like full volume. So, they'd have to come up with a different taper that behaved like a log taper, but didn't follow the same response curve.

But, you can certainly use 500K log taper pots, and it's highly unlikely you'd be able to hear any difference.
