There's a Sears store in my general vicinity (Mountain View/Palo Alto, CA) that is closing up, and I wandered in at lunchtime to check out what's left in the liquidator's stock.

Picked up a shiny new Porter Cable 1.75 HP 690LR fixed-base router for $103 bucks.

Booyah!  There were three more in stock when I left at 1:30 PM, if you're in the neighborhood.

Now I need to locate a plunge kit for it.

Porter Cable makes some damn nice routers, and there are a lot of accessories designed specifically for them because of that. It's a professional tool.

I've got a plunge base for my Bosch, and it's never been used. Don't know that it ever will be. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but nothing I've ever done has ever required it. Since yours is a popular router with a long life expectancy, you may want to wait until you need the plunge base before you dump money into one. Chances are, you'll still be able to get one when the time comes.

Bit the bullet - Sears had the Craftsman el-cheapo router table on sale, and I had a coupon as well.  Basically the Skill one, with Sears name on it.  Its not a "bad" unit, but not great either.  For right now, recutting the tongues on flooring... its fine enough.  Was able to take about .005 off the tongue on one side today.  All of that flooring done, tomorrow I reset the router, and do the opposite side.
