Charles H. Kaman.

Good night Sir. We appreciate your advances in Helicopters, Guitars, and Blind & Police Dogs.

I can appreciate the work that went into the Ovation acoustics, I have one myself that is non piezo but sounds great acoustically. Detractors of Ovations always correlated the ownership of Ovation to that of Gibson and Fender when they were owned by multi national congolmerates, but as we can see in this bio, the owner of Kaman was always a guitar lover so there was an enthusiasm to put out good product. I've had the Ovation for decades now and it still plays well.

I knew about his helicopter work but not the guide  & police dog work..... A true innovator in the world may he RIP.

His wife was the instigator of the animal work - mostly raising and training guide dogs.

I've said it before, and will continue to say - the Adamas (carbon fibre top Ovation) that I've got is phenominal.

It has zero ghost notes, zero dead spots, zero hot notes, and perfectly even volume and attack, anyplace on its fretboard.  I've never encountered another guitar quite like that.

As you read the bio, and think about what he did for the acoustic guitar, he should really be held in the same league as guys like Leo Fender and Ted McCarty.

Yeah, for sure. Very innovative. The acoustic I have has only two pieces of wood on it. The Spruce top and the bridge/tailpiece. The neck is a hardened styrofoam plastic, the nut is plastic, the fretboard and strength on the neck is aluminium with petillo frets moulded in by the looks of it, the back of course, is rounded plastic. And it sounds great!
