Hello people. I still havent decided which combo of woods I'll pick for my soloist body but I'd like help to choose the pickups for each one (both SSH).. For the Alder+maple I thought about 2 regular fender singles and a SD Custom 5 (SH14) for the bridge, but I have no idea what to choose for the mahogany body..

I've been told on other forums that wood really doesnt affect tone as much as an amp and that I should go with the same pickup combo with either bodies.. but I dont take this too seriously.. should I?

By the way, I play from Pearl Jam to In Flames.. so versatility is a must.

Custom5 in Alder will sound terrible mate.

The CU5 has a scooped mid, as does Alder/maple, so it'd sound thin and weak.

My Tom Anderson is just that combo so I'd urge you to try the Anderson H2+
It's AWESOME and my fave humbucker bar none.

Oh I just checked the sound samples in the SD webpage and on a strat it sounded pretty cool. It sounded fat and rich  :-\ Now I'm confused.

Are you sure we are talking about the same pup? Here's the sample: http://www.seymourduncan.com/audio/support/humbucker/SH14BridgeDirty.mp3

Do you have a sound sample of the H2?

If it were me - with alder and maple - I would think that combo would be fairly bright so I'd go for a pickup with an A2 magnet - OR a pickup with a high resistance like a JB. I don't think the Custom 5 is a bad choice either, but the Custom Custom would probably be my choice. I'd actually go for a JB2, but that's a magnet swap (or custom shop order).

for the mahogany, it would depend on what the neck is going to be. If it's also a mahogany neck I'd go for something with a low resistance - like around 8K. If it's a maple neck you could probably try anything and it's going to be alright, IMO.

The Custom 5 is renowned for it's mid range scoop, it's why it was designed by the forum users.

The Custom is ceramic, Custom Custom is Alnico 2 and the Custom 5 is Alnico 5.. all the same pickup just different magnets.

Here's a link to hear a H2+

Well I definitely like how it sounds, but the last 2 videos are with a maple fretboard. Mine would be a maple with rosewood fretboard like in the first vid.

I'll keep it in mind. Any other ideas? I'll most likely go with the alder body (+quilt maple) since I think it's more versatile.. I'm afraid of the cleans and highs with a mahogany body.. that's why I want something warm fat and rich for the bridge in the alder bodyt

Here's my baby, Alder/maple, Maple/rosewood. Pickups are Anderson H2+ and 2x Kinmans
Incredible guitar

I liked the H2. Does it combine well with 2 fender noiseless you think?

And what if I picked the mahogany people? Thank again :)  :hello2:

I used to have an SH-11 "custom custom" in an alder+maple Strat, and it's prolly the only hotter-output pickup I would ever purchase again... it worked fantastically
in the strat.
