My P-bass pickup came with some silver foil on the inside of it, to cover the control cavity. Is this proper shielding, or do I need to put the copper tape over it?
I was planning on shielding the route, I was wondering specifically if I need to put the copper tape over the silver foil stuff that came on the pickguard from Warmoth.
the foil might be aluminum, i didn't know this till recently but apparently aluminum has some unique properties and can sheild from the noise of a dimmer switch. it was on Bill Lawrence's site. aluminum can make singles quieter but can also make stacked noiseless pups louder, it can cut the highs slightly but so will copper.
I wired up my latest Warmoth without so much as one scrap of shielding. It buzzes a little, but nothing a noise gate doesn't take care of...besides, they're single coils! On the other hand, my first Warmoth was shielded to holy hell and buzzed like crazy...with humbuckers!
So for my money, proper soldering is much more important than what the shielding is made out of. :icon_jokercolor:
