Painting on the gloss finish

I want to buy a pre painted body and then add some hand painted graphics to it. I know I have to sand the gloss coat to a flat finish for the paint to adhere.

What paint should I use that wont cause a reaction with the underlying clear and top coat?

What clear coat should I use? A water based Uerathane or a catalised uerathane??

Why not buy a flat-finished body and then topcoat with a gloss?  Warmoth uses a urethane topcoat which you can in turn top with virtually anything.  If you have the protective gear for it, a 2k gloss finish would be fast and durable.  Otherwise any of the rattlecan finishes are going to be compatible with Warmoth's urethane, which is non-reactive to most chemicals once it cures.
