I like the sound of the PAF Pro in thge bridge & was thinking of getting one for the neck position as well. Does anyone have one in the neck? Does it cut through well, sound clear, defined etc?

Decided to go for a Bluesbucker in the neck instead & a 36th Anniv. PAF (neck version for more articulation) in the bridge.

Saving the double PAF Pro option for my next build, which will be a basswood soloist.

personally i thought the 36th anniversary bridge pup was plenty articulate with the perfect amount of lows - nothing too big or boomy at any point, but just enough to have some body. I loved how clear it was playing full 6-string chords through distortion in my Artist

Well, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai HAve all used PAF Pro in the neck at some point. If you like that tone, then that might be the way to go.

What kind of music do you play? The PAF Pro is fairly articulate, and has a relatively flat tonal profile. I generally go with something with more highs in the neck, because the neck position can be so mellow. I figure you can always bleed off treble with tone and volume, but you can't add it back in.

Peace

I plan to put the PAF Pro in the neck of a 24 fret Basswood soloist soloist & then route the neck picku up 2-3 inches lower than usual. This will still keep it warm, but being closer to the bridge, it should make it even more articulate. I hiope I'm right. Interesting experiment, never the less.

I have a PAF Pro in the neck of my main axe, the one pictured in my icon (though the pic shows a Duncan Jazz, ugh).
It will do well as a neck pup if you have a higher output bridge unit-I use a Tone Zone. If you're going for a more vintage type of sound, I would use a straight PAF type, as the Pro will kind of swamp a lower output bridge pickup.

I was going to put 2 PAF Pros in the guitar. They should balance each other well if I play with the height.

I don't know about that for sure, never had 2 identical pickups in neck and bridge. Conventional wisdom would say that the neck should be lower output-even if only slightly lower-than the bridge.

while that's generally true, it's pretty common to put identical pickups in the neck and bridge positions. Most sets you get from any manufacturer would be slightly tweaked, but in the end it's all about personal preference.
Plus, if you're moving the neck pickup way down towards the bridge, there's going to be much less of a volume (and tone) difference than usual. In that particular case though, I don't know if two of the same model pickup is really what you want. But hell, might as well try it first. DiMarzio's exchange policy makes experimentation all the more fun.
