so i have an impacted wisdom tooth, not the worst pain ive ever felt but i cant eat or sleep comfortably because of it, infact i haven't been to sleep yet, i have no current job, no insurance and no savings. damn my luck, i've always had bad luck but lately it's ridiculous. well maybe it is a good thing, i might lose some of the 40 pounds i gained since the military. any ideas to keep my mind off the pain?

I feel for you. Three of my molars started hurting simultaneously a couple of days ago. I haven't been to the dentist in 2 years so maintenance isn't up to date. But from what I read my pain isn't nearly as bad as yours. I can still eat and sleep pretty good.
Got an appointment for a checkup on Tuesday... I bet I'll need another appointment to have everything fixed. Good thing: I'm insured...

Ouch, feel for you.

Had impacted wisdom teeth years ago and was in the process of heading to surgery in a few weeks time, when voila! one of them started really misbehaving and I had to call up and see if I could be scheduled earlier.

Luckily the oral surgeon I had already been to see could move me forward and I was done on a Saturday morning, and stayed overnight (I was living by myself and they didn't want me at home after surgery, by myself). First time under general aneasthetic too. Nervous as hell but all went well.

Had to have two weeks off work - my face was all puffed up and I had to eat pureed foods for at least a week and lost about 6 kilos as a result. The next time I see a young Mum berating her kid for not eating the baby food, I will personally intervene - that stuff is horrid and the main reason why I lost so much weight in only 2 weeks!

The surgeon did prescribe me Nurofen (Ibrufen?) for pain but it gave me nightmares, but maybe that's OK for you to have?

Hope you can get scheduled for surgery soon, can't be good for your health with that sort of encompassing pain.

I feel you on that. My luck sucks as well, and I have bad teeth. In october I had some fillings done. I've been back 3 times since then to have them redone, and one of them is still hurting. I've also got two impacted wisdom teeth on either side, and can't get them removed until sometime in April because these dentist visits ruined my insurance.

Man... that brings back memories......

I remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled/cut out.  I was 16 or 17.  They hadda knock me out.  Came home from the oral surgeon... my buddy Mike came over, and I grabbed my Tele and Princeton Reverb and we took turns dinkin' around while my pain meds kicked in.  This was my blond 72 that I stuck a Gibby HB pickup in at the neck.  I remember playing my ass off as the percs were taking over, and ripping a blister on my index finger from playing.

That was Friday afternoon.

Monday at school, Mike was all over me... play that Keith Richards thing again!  I was like... wtf are you talking about?  He said I was doing all sorts Keith Richards licks then hung it up and handed him the guitar and went in to bed.  I dont remember a second of it, but... my mom said he brought my stuff inside for me and put it away because I walked past her like a zombie and fell on my bed and didn't move till lunchtime on Saturday.  Crazy man.. just crazy.

thanks for all the comments, the tooth is bearable today but definately will need to get pulled, maybe ill head to the liquor store and get some drambuie.

you wont need it... the tooth doc oughta give you some crap that you'll take two of, and save the rest for a rainy day.

Reminds me that I still have the two wisdom teeth they pulled under  anaesthetic, in a sample jar somewhere in this house of mine! :sign13: :tard:

That's quite unusual that they are in one piece.  They usually smash them and pull the pieces out.

In several pieces IIRC.

After having that done, and getting thru it, I'm less stressed about other dental work I might have done. I think that's about the worst of it, although some people mention root canal therapy as a clsoe second.

what branch of service? and thanks for that.

I had a navy dr. pull two wisdoms, i didn't feel a thing, he was good

OH BTW, you don't know what pain is untill you have a bout with Gout, it usually hits you in the ball of your big toe or ankle

it feels like someone ran over your foot with a tank, the weight of a bed sheet is excruciating

This morning, at about 1, I woke up with hives everywhere (never had that happen before). Still don't know what caused it, didn't come in contact with anything I've been allergic to before, I think. Don't want that happening again. Took 2 Benadril, asked my dad if he wanted me to throw up in the sink or trash can, and the trash can was full. Man, I was hungry today. That steak I had last night was great the first time. The second time I tasted it, less so.

i was in the air force, and would never go back, loved my job but as far as the medical, i once had mono and was brilliantly diagnosed with "not strep throat" i was sent back to work where i had to call for the results to rule out one illness that it was not. i didn't get a single day off duty for that. i only figure i had mono because months later i tested positive for epstien bar anti bodies but previously had not.

as far as gout, i feel ya. i got out do to serious musculoskeletal pains and fatigue that went undiagnosed. i was constantly sent to "life skills" to rule out psycosematic symptoms of depression and as many time as i did that the next doctor after my primary would pcs or i would pcs would send me back only to learn nothing had changed since the last time it was ruled out.

well i still don't have a real answer but the va is much more helpfull than any airforce doctor, they never tried to answer why i was bloated and my biliruben was elevated, and the skin under my eyes was black and swolen, i was often asked if i had been in a fight. but to an airforce doc i just looked depressed and odly i wasn't though i had every reason to be.

sorry for the rant i don't mean to compare. bringing up branch of service and gout just reminded me of things i guess im still bitter over.
