So after about 30 years of tinkering with electronics, I broke down and bought a scope. Rigol 1054Z. Sold a vintage Roland D-50 which was just laying around collecting dust, had a couple of projects in mind that it'd be handy for. It's making it's way here now.
So I'm showing my 7 yo a few pictures of what it is and what it does. Sharp kid. We've done a little bit of robotics tinkering, he will build stuff with Snap-Circuits, stuff like that. I was just trying to get his interest up a bit - when he comes up with "And it might also be good for teaching kids about electronics!" Right you are kiddo. Love this boy.
Amazing what your money gets you today that was a pipe dream 20 years ago. 4ch 50Mhz (about 130Mhz if you hack it) scope with FFT, I2C and SPI decode for under 4 bills. Can't wait!
