Opinions on alternate finish options

I purchased a bass neck and P-bass body during the big sale at the end of last year. I thought I would like the color combination, but I definitely prefer a lighter color for the bass. I'm thinking white or one of the light blue colors like Sonic, Daphne or Turquoise. The Warmoth website used to have a way of assembling a guitar so you could get a good idea how it would look. Is there a website or some way to achieve this?

I've seen people make a mock-up of their guitar with different neck/pickguard and body combinations. I was curios if this is a website anyone can use or was this a particular program of some kind. I just wanted to play around with different combinations to see how the different combinations would look.

Warmoths old builder let you build the body, then add all the parts and stuff from their catalog. You could also see the front and back of the body/neck.

Sorta like kisake, but better.

I can't tell you how many builds I mocked up on that puppy. I think that was when the showcase was called something different. When it was a separate page you went to with all the options on the left side.

I actually miss both of these things.

This is definitely a case of the newer site not being as good as that old one.

@aarontunes: can some of that functionality of the old stuff be brought back?

The old showcase would allow those to drool a bit more, and maybe find something they normally wouldn't look for

The tele was just such a creature. I had just seen/heard of spalting and selected that option and saw a few bodies, most of which were teles at the time (due to the thick top not being able to be bent, 98-99 vintage).

I didn't like teles back then and wanted a strat or other double cut. But I saw that body and just HAD to have it.

Had the showcase been what it is today, I would never have seen it, nor had the blessing of owning it. It's my best sounding guitar.

I'm using an old standalone version of Photoshop but you can find other free or low-cost apps/services. If you have the Adobe subscription, the modern version of Photoshop has much easier single-click ways to select bodies, necks, and parts out of an image (downloaded from the Warmoth website via "right-click > Save"). Canva is another online service that has a very limited free version but the next paid level up gives you the ability to remove backgrounds from images. From there it's just a matter of resizing and repositioning things to the correct fit. The basics of selecting a body and neck and compositing them together is all you really need to quickly compare your options. But, depending on your app/service you can do more detailed things as well, like changing colors, creating bursts, adding drop shadows, drawing strings, creating headstock labels, etc., etc.

The Tele's seem to get the best tops in the showcase. I didn't want a tele either until I saw one with a redwood top.

Agree we should have something more like the old showcase, where you could filter to your heart's content...

I ended up sending a 3-piece unpainted Warmoth P-bass body I bought a while ago back to Warmoth for a Daphne blue satin paint job and a white pearl pickguard. I think that will go well with the neck I purchased. I will be selling the satin black P-bass body in case someone is interested.
