Back in the '80s, I went to high school with the drummer and guitarist of Order From Chaos.  Still good friends.  They never gained much momentum beyond a small undergound following, but released several albums.  Their popularity steadily grows, so the former members keep printing CDs and LPs (yup, the metal community still loves vinyl), and they've done one posthumous release of old demos and live stuff, and theres another in the works, eventually.  For a band that rarely played shows, they rehearsed three times a week from '87 until '94.  Very tight, very animated performers (not that you can tell from the video below), absolutely dedicated to their music, the lyrics were far more intelectual than the average metal band of the day, and despite the intense music they're actually charming, friendly and completely silly human beings.

If you like the heavy stuff, then you'd do well to look into Order From Chaos.
This was from their final performance

Last year they reuinted for a song (Webs of Perdition) when all the former member's bands were playing the same show (Ares Kingdom and Angelcorpse).  Still extremely tight after not having been in the same room together in 14 years.
