Nylon Telecaster

After long looks at the nylon string Strat projects of both aizenx and Steve_Karl (very nice job guys) I decided I needed to try it out for myself.
First, I found a nice but relatively cheap Birdseye / Macassar Ebony neck in the showcase.

Wanting to be a little different, I decided to go with a carved top, 2 F-Hole Telecaster body in Mahogany with a Birdseye top to match the neck. Didn't get an "Out-of-the Box" shot, but here it is after I routed the slot for the wires for the Graphtech Ghost saddles I intend to use. I went with an Abalone plug instead of trying to match the maple, which also matches the neck dots.

Here is the Mahogany after grain fill (Ebony).

And here it is after stain and the first clear coat. The picture washes the stain out a bit. It is actually quite a bit darker in real life, but I think I will take it even darker if I do another.

Will give it a few more coats of clear and then start throwing hardware on it. I'm waiting on the Ghost saddles, but it should come together in the next week or so. Will post more pics as I go.

Criminy.  Here I am thinking, Dang, Bagman, you've got enough guitars to keep you busy for a while now... and then another one of these lovely nylon-string jobs shows up and reminds me about the huge gaping hole in my collection labeled "Nylon goodness."

Thanks for nothing.

You're fanning the flames of my desire for a solid body classical... damn you!  :laughing7:

I was also leaning towards a Tele shape.  Either that or an L5S.

Down the road I've been thinking of doing a Nylon L5S. Seems like a good shape for it.

I wanted to get what I would call a rootbeer color for the mahogany, so after the mahogany stain and 1 coat of clear to give it a bit of red and some depth I sand it back just a bit and stained it again with a dark brown. Here's the results.

I'm pretty happy with the results. It has a nice deep look to it with lots of red highlights under the brown.
My Ghost Bridges came in while I was letting the clear poly harden, so I pulled it all together today.

I didn't go for all the Midi interface, figured I could always go back and add it later if I wanted to. Still, I'm very pleased with the sound the Ghosts deliver. I'm sure my finger picking will improve with this laying around. :headbang1:

That's beautiful! Fine job you've done there!

So... two fantastic new guitars in one weekend. How you gonna follow that up? Next weekend is gonna be depressing. Your heart's gonna be like "what have you done for me lately? <grin>
