I'm a novice in action  :icon_thumright:
I have no professional competence instruments: only swabs and brushes.
What wood and finish?
I thought Alder or SwampAsh and tung-oil & wax.
It can be done?

Most important advice you will get: ALDER, not swamp ash, for an easy finish. Swamp ash will require filling which is thew hardest step, alder does not need filling. This is key.

Easiest might be alder with Zinsser shellac or a wipe-on type of poly like that gel stuff or a Minwax product. Tung oil is not an easy finish, it is very time consuming. Simple but not easy.

Let's see if I understand correctly (alder or swamp-ash):
1st filler (filling pores)
2nd sandpaper to living wood and closed pores
3rd tung-oil
4th wax

It's ok?

filler NO for alder

filler YES for swamp ash

Maybe I explained badly.
From the information I've gathered, the filler/sealer/??? (TURAPORI in Italian) should always be used.
Any wood you want to paint "should be" used. It 's the basis!
And since it can be passed with a paintbrush, why not?

But make sure to use sanding sealer on alder.

Yes! Like I wrote
Semantics : sealer= Turapori in Italian?
(before I wrote filler...my mistake!)
