I'm sure there's a better way to word that title,  :-\

But anyway, I'd like to know if things are going to be ended, but before they're finished and it's too late!

Just in case you're thinking of stopping things that I'm thinking of building, insane, irrational, weird things, maybe, but at least it means I'll get one last chance. Assuming I've got the money at the time,  :turtle:

Product Discontinuation Notification

Would work, but for the rest I am not sure what you are getting at?

I think what he's asking for is a section of "revision notes", like you get with software, only as they apply to Warmoth policy/practice. For example, when Paypal got accepted, then subsequently denied as a form of payment. Or, if they decided to never again make Strat bodies out of (insert wood here), or added magic glow-in-the-dark straplocks to the hardware selection. Or, the discontinuation of [insert feature or service here] or implementation of [insert feature or service here].

I think he's just looking for advance notice of when Warmoth isn't going to offer a specific product anymore.  Like when they discontinued neon finishes.  If amigarobbo had been scheming on a super-80s neon Explorer Nomad, finding out at checkout that neon finishes were no longer offered would be kind of a rough way to find out.  Especially if it's been sitting in your cart for 6 months, taunting you.

Just some kind of notice between decision and execution, sent out to registered customers(?) via email.  I think.  :dontknow:

I just talked to Spike, and he says carved-top Teles are still a viable choice and haven't been discontinued. They just don't happen to have any in the Showcase right now. So, I guess that means we can all rest easy.

And here I thought for a moment there all my carved top Teles had increased in value by 3.9%  :laughing7:

Let's say, hypothetically, I was planning a Mooncaster SSB build but I just didn't get round to it yet. Finances, not sure about what pups to use, whatever. Then W just as hypothetically pulls it from the 'build custom' pages. There are still a dozen in stock but none of them with the specs I had in mind. Finally the last ones wander into the screaming deals section and they're still pretty *yawn* so I pass them by. Finally all that remains is drooling over the build posts of the members who did build one. Yeah, I can understand why you would want a few weeks to place final orders.

I believe it was the discontinued Carved too Tele that elicited the post.

My scenario was hypothetical, but the same idea holds.  Knowing that the desired option is going the way of the dinosaur before it's no longer available might prompt a person to either rethink a build idea or pull the trigger on it sooner rather than lose it.

Good to hear about carved-top Teles, because I want one at some point.  :icon_biggrin:

They're very comfy and attractive. I'm surprised they're not more popular than they are.

If you want an 8-string bass, the time to build one is now.  :bass:  There are two 8-string bass necks in the showcase. Not sure how many more in the wings, but it can't be many. Word on the street is once the ones that are already built are gone, the product is going bye-bye.

Dunno about that.

I feel your pain form a customer's POV.

However, from the manufacturer's POV it's not as simple as just giving people a "last chance". Generally speaking, if we have arrived at the decision to discontinue a feature or product, there is a compelling reason to end it quickly.

Example: Remember the Glow in the Dark finish option we used to do? Over half the bodies shot in that color had to be redone one or more times. It was a losing proposition. The last thing we wanted after the decision was made to end it was a sudden run of orders for it....creating the necessity to order more paint, lose more money on labor, etc.

Moral of the story: Carpe diem, baby!!

Having said all that, I'll keep this request in the back of my brain. Any time I see some product or feature about to end...something I can notify you of in advance....I'll do so here.

Aaron your suggestion of an "Ending Soon/Last Chance" is fair enough for models about to end. Understand how the company feels about options that prove, in real life, to be buggers to deal with or have some issue after manufacture. You want that stuff GONE real quick.

If Warmoth decides to retire a wood option or remove one from the custom builder it would be nice to know sooner than later.
