I just picked up this neck. Now I have to find a body...

not often seen outside of captivity, here we see the endangered 18-piece neck.. very rare.

Crikey!

That does look wild man!

HA, that is nice... reminds me of the early 70's Gibson necks... but they were all maple... similar laminations.

Looks like Soulmate. I've been thinking about them for a future guitar.

I was thinking along that same line...and yes, they do craft a fine geetar  :guitaristgif:

It's a 5-piece neck... you only count the number of laminates across the neckback, not the actual number of pieces of wood in the whole neck.

Still a very unique neck!!  I don't think I've seen one with laminates in an angled headstock like that.  Awesome  :eek:ccasion14:

The wing on the headstock is just totally uncalled for in in a high grade neck... anti-Kudo's to them for that

+1

i wish i could get warmoth to do a strat neck like the multi-piece gecko necks that i used to see in the showcase but they said there is more trouble in getting it centered when they plane it down to guitar size.

the stripes on the headstock look unbalanced with the larger CBS era shape. and the extra piece of maple on the bottom does seem un called for. i hate to put down a persons work, this is not an easy thing to make but it just seems with that much effort the builder would want the cosmetics to be perfect.

Where is this wing you speakof? I see no wing.... :icon_scratch:

the wing of the porno headstock  :icon_biggrin:

it should have been one piece. or not a porno headstock at all ;)

How about I put a piece of laminate maple over the headstock?

Doug really didn't care to make a 6IL but I paid for it so he did. He mentioned just about everything you forumites have.

The Pau Ferro finger board is awesome!

it might not look bad all assembled. i mean they are some beautiful pieces of wood. well hell don't take my advice, it's your guitar. and even a logo to fill up the lower part could fix the uneven look to it. but a laminate could could be one option.

i guess the pieces he is used to using for 3x3 tuners weren't big enough to get that whole headstock. or the headstock started as the same piece as the neck and he didn't want to be wasteful.

I thought the same but decided to be quiet... But yes, not really a nice thing

nah i'd leave it like it is, i love music man guitars but i dont know if you'll get something that looks exactly right trying to cut it before the 5th tuner ream.

after looking at it i really think a logo can help. ok now im getting redundant. it's beautiful like it is and that's why the extra piece on the headstock jumps out at you. it's all ooh an ahh and then it's like whoa why is that there, he could have done without that. your own idea of a laminate is probably a better way to fix it than to hack it up. and when it is on the guitar i'm sure not as much attention will be called to it.

yeah keep it the way it is... I still like it a lot... even with the wing and the porno headstock ;)

the laminates running down the neck make the sides of the headstock like wings in the design, and wings usually look best when they are symmetrical. The CBS headstock is the least symmetrical headstock i know of.
