I see that someone here has done an amazing "barn door tele"...well I guess we had the same idea but envisioned it in two very different ways...Mine's more of the slacker white-trash version...I picture a crazy monogrammed leather pickguard maybe black with some crazy design on it.

This one's sugar pine 3.5lbs...ummm not Warmoth, hope that's ok? :dontknow:

that works
infact it works great,
I think I can see a aged maple neck with worn in finger marks on the axe to give it that total worn out look

That's a great finish! Makes me think "barn door" for sure. I don't see any pickguard on it myself. Just let that neck pickup and wires show. Then you just need an aged control plate and bridge. You can always add a pickguard later.

I love the color  :icon_thumright:

I am in full agreement with TroubledTreble, it looks great as it is. Bare wires would only add to the feel! I'd consider a pau ferro neck with that.

Thought*  Didn't they used to put advertising on the side of barns? If you did put a pickguard on there maybe it should be a worn advertisment for something like Burma Shave or See Rock City. I know someone who can sublimate that into a pickguard.

I like it. Personally, I'd go with a vintage correct thin matte black pickguard, but scratch the hell out of it and chip it. Or I'd be tempted to wood mount everything (with a cutoff Tele bridge), no pickguard at all. Or the leather sounds cool but I (again, this is just me) would leave it was plain, very worn out leather.

I see the ratty old pick guard with a hole worn in it from propping a finger on it as you chicken pick the axe, volumne knob replaced with a chicken head and a squared off plate, not rounded like stock of plain metal with a fine rust coating, bridge is rusted too. Neck needs to be vintage maple with wear patterns and 5 classic wilks and one replacement gotoh, I mean lets make that thing Raw to the eyes as that body deserves.

Great ideas!  I never considered leaving it bare, that would be cool...that pine is so soft I think I'll opt for some sort of scratchplate tho...funny, I was actively searching for a license plate at one time...The neck with mismatched tuners is a great idea LOL!!  Maybe it should have a big fat cbs strat headstock just to make it more wtf??

I scored a great web special neck for this project, but it's a beautiful rosewood fretboard...not a good match at all, however, the price was just too good to pass on, especially with the missus overseeing the budget committee.

The type of pickguard I was considering something along these lines...

Maybe with a little biographical info embossed on it....
" '69...YEAR OF THE COCK "

A license plate guard would look sweet! That or just leave it bare and let the wires show. Reminds me of something Seasick Steve would play:

Pretty cool, I like it..Along withthe advertisment pick gaurd it needs a bottle opener.... :headbang1:

I agree with those who have said to let the bare wires show. That would make it super-unique. You could name it "Rusty Barebones".

Might as well also figure out how to attach a beer can holder to the strap button on the butt.

Lovin' these suggestions...seriously contemplating leaving the wires out now...dubbing this build the "Tetanus Ranger"
