New Tremolo?

This has been a problem that's been bugging me for a long time, since the day I finished building my guitar... I wasn't very knowledgeable about guitars until I built my strat, and now I know about 100 times more about guitars than before. The one thing I didn't know much about until now was string spacing. The guitar I previously played had a stop- tail on it, and it has, after doing some research, 2 1/16 string spacing. After dying to get a guitar with a trem, I built my strat, without looking into string spacing. The tremolo, a Wilkinson VS401, has a 2 1/8 string spacing. After playing my guitar for about 20 minutes after building it, I already had my high e string easily slipping off the fretboard whenever I did pull-offs. I've gotten a little more used to it now, but I really don't want to play in a show having to worry about playing my guitar carefully. So, the question is, should I get a new trem? I've looked on the web for other answers, but they seem to not yield anything useful. Do my stainless steel frets make a difference as well? Please help! :help:

I did the exact same thing, so don't feel bad. I bought a Callaham Mexican trem with the proper spacing. it's pricey, but it's a quality piece. My Strat body is a Mighty Mite I found on eBay, and not a Warmoth, so the strings aren't quite centered on the neck. With the first trem it was unplayable, but now it's ok. So to make a long story short: buy another trem.

I might be wrong, but I can't see stainless steel frets having anything to do with it... :icon_scratch:

Cool, looks like I just have to look for a two point trem with narrow spacing now... I guess the Hipshot would be nice, even though I don't like the size of the base plate very much. Does anyone out there know of a quality two point trem with narrow string spacing?
