Tonight I heard a new generation of pickups, the likes which have never been heard of before. A Friend of mine on this forum, TroubledTreble, has stumbled upon a recipe for pickup winding that will blow your mind ( that is if Tone, clarity, crunch, quiet, is what your after)
I use the term stumbled very loosely, as he's done a ton of homework to get to where he's at.

He loaned his Black Korina guitar , http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=100.0
loaded with his new generation pups in it, to a professional guitar player for a gig tonight and the sound was noticeable by all in attendance, even people not looking to hear a different guitar sound.

The guitar player has been playing for 40+ years and has played with some great bands, the first clue that the pups were  great was when he plugged in the guitar and tuned up before the show , he sat there and played by himself for 1/2 hour enjoying the sound himself. He's a tone freak as well, and praised highly the sound of TT's (TroubledTrebles) pups.

I wish I had a sound byte, but it would surely not do any justice.

I know he's gonna go into business selling these things, any of you interested should E-Mail him and bug him into selling you a set ASAP

I've heard every great pick-up out there, Fralins,VanZants,Lolars, etc...these are far superior.

I'm sure he'll offer them up to all of you here first for a good price, then you can responde with your own review

Hope he start a company and make it a good way of life!
Do you know if there are Tele pickups involved?  :icon_biggrin:

Far superior? forgive me for being skeptical, but this sounds like something for dbw's "Selling It (to guitarists)" thread.

Thanks Alfang. It was fun to hear him play last night. Great to meet your wife too!

It's true. I have been working on this pickup design for a little over a year. My goal was simply to make something for myself that I liked and sounded the way I thought it should. I have been encouraged by others to share them with other musicians who may enjoy the same thing. As far as a business goes, my goal for now is to sell a few. It's great to do something you enjoy and even greater when you can share with others.

What is different? Let's face it. It's merely wire and magnets. The thing that makes pickups different from each other is construction. The materials and the way they are put together all lend nuances, though they may be subtle, to the sound of each pickup. It is mostly through coil construction that gives these thier characteristics.

To give a description is to offer a subjective opinion. One of the design objectives was to pull more color out of the guitar. To me these sound like they are "pushing" a lot of air.  Another objective was to add more top end to the tone. I used to always play with my tone knob on 10. With these 8 is about where 10 is on other pickups. That does not mean that these are bright, just that there is a slightly broader range available.

I make no claims that these are superior, just different. For me personally I think they are better than other pickups, but then I was designing them for me.  :laughing11:

I have only concentrated on perfecting the design for strat style pickups. The design will work for any pickup, tele, humbucker, p90, bass......  It will take a little time to cover all the form factors and I only want to release each model as they have been perfected.  I am concerned about quality and will only use good materials. I am currently working on having laser cut flat work.

It is still early to say much more. I have been taking these around to local musicians to try and give feedback. I know what I like and have been testing to see if others would like them too.

More to come......

TroubledTreble,

Firstly, congrats and a heap of respect from me for trying to improve the sound we get out of guitars with a better pickup design.

But secondly, if these pickups are worth it, have you looked at the legal angle this leads to?

I'm talking about patents and, if you haven't designed an original idea, then the prospect of dealing with the person who probably does hold the patent. If the likes of Bill Lawrence and Chris Kinman can have legal challenges made to their original ideas and the ownership of them, it might pay to get a patent attorney (or the like) to do some research on your designs and find out where you stand.

You've already got one customer in Alfang... sounds like you're in business!  :icon_thumright:  When can we hear clips?

This keeps on getting better! not only is that the best looking strat ever, it now turns out it is one of the best sounding too :)

Sounds like you are on to something! I am defenitly in the market for a set of your pickups, even if I have to plan a project around them! :) let me know when you officially start selling them!

so now we have pickups and neckplates covered within this group.. all we need now is someone who designs their own bridges or tuners..  :hello2:

We now also have Hannes!!! :):) but then again, he was probably just bored and googled himself.. so he's not a real member  :icon_biggrin:

He's a real member, all right.  (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=member)

Aaanyway.  Maybe I could go into business selling "treble bleed networks"... put a 3 cent capacitor in a 10 cent piece of shrink tubing and sell it for five bucks.  :D
