New Neck Profile

Theres a neck profile made by a guy named Rick Toone called the Trapezoidal Neck Profile which i find very interesting.  I wanted to get a Warmoth with this neck profile for my guitar, so i contacted Rick about getting a template to give to them.  He was very enthusiastic about the idea and said he would contact Warmoth himself to discuss the design and licensing, and i contacted them myself making the request for a neck with this profile.  They have said that at this time it is not something they would like to pursue, but i thought i would bring the idea to everyone here and see if you guys would be interested in the chance to own a Warmoth neck with this profile?

Above is a video about one of Ricks bass guitars with the Trapezoidal Neck Profile.  They start talking about it at 6:32.

Here is a quote from the initial response Rick gave me when i emailed him about his neck profile:

"Justin — this is a great idea, and I would be honored. I have used Warmoth products for several decades, and they consistently perform to high quality standards. They will be fully capable of building a Trapezoidal Neck Profile neck that I would feel represents the design well. I have been contacted by a growing number of musicians who would like to use the profile, either on new builds or as replacement necks, but you are the first who has suggested Warmoth....I would also like to share with Warmoth how to "correctly" build the neck. I have no doubt they are fully capable of building the shape. Once they understand the nuances of the design, you will likely find the shape "disappears" into your hand. Unless clients request otherwise, it is the only shape I am currently building...including on my own personal instruments."

As you can see he is very keen to share his design with Warmoth.

Im not upset that Warmoth declined my request at this time, i am merely presenting this idea to everyone here to build some interest in the design so that maybe some time in the future Warmoth will incorporate it.

Did you played thru this profile? I'm not sure I'd buy a neck with that profile without playing with it a lot and really liking it...

It looks interesting.  I wonder how it would work on a 5-string bass with wider spacing.  I'd like to try one.

I wouldn't like it, but it seems like it would be useful for classical/metal guitar players or bass players.

I'd like to try it as well, It looks like it would help you with proper hand posture. Though Iv'e got so many bad habits it might not help me.

No i havnt played a neck with this profile myself, but after reading about it i think it is a good idea.  Also after checking out alot of Ricks other designs hes obviously someone who does his homework when he takes up a new idea, and i think the profile would peform as well as Rick says it does.

Heres another quote from Rick about the way a neck with this profile feels:

"1. In pinch grip or thumb over the top, the neck feels as "invisible" as an Ibanez Wizard. The flat planes on the top and bottom allow the hand much deeper access into the fretboard, because they do not interfere with your knuckle joints.

2. In classical grip, the neck feels as thick and solid as a classical guitar. Excellent thumb leverage for barre chord and complex virtuosity."

Basically it doesnt feel that much different from a normal neck.  It suits the natural ergonomics of your hand so that it takes the least amount of effort to fret in both the classical and pinch grip positions.

There is a rule on neck profiles: test it before you make a decision... Unfortunatelly this is not always possible... my Warmoth neck was Fatback and today I think I'd have preffered the Boatneck, that I always thought that would be utterly strange... now I've worked a little on it countours
