Hello!

I've just ordered a maple/maple 25" 7 string neck from warmoth.

I'm going to build the body myself, I'd really appreciate if anyone who has a 7 string could please measure the distance from the neck pocket edge to the bridge (mid point of saddle adjustment I guess??)

I want to get started on drawings of the body while I wait the 6+ weeks for the neck to arrive.

Secondly, and this bit might sound really stupid, is it possible to chop off the 23rd and 24th frets? I really don't like the look of 24 fret necks, but it was the only option!

As I see it, the only possible hiccup is the placement of the trussrod. And without access to an X-ray machine I have no way of knowing where it is!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Matt

I considered making my 24 fret shortscale conversion neck into a 23 fret rounded heel. The truss rod isn't an issue - you don't want to take any off the heel  only the fingerboard. You should be able to look and see if it's going to cross any fret slots. It will look ugly if it crosses a fret slot - but you should be able to just use a larger bearing to follow the heel of the neck and leave that fret on in its entirety

"Tally how, I'm in!"

Anyone ever build string baritone guitar, or a  :o 7-string Hollow body Baritone guitar?
Hope OP doesn't' mind me jumping in, looking far into the future and did not want to post a whole thread.

Start with measuring/marking the intonation point on the body first, not just the edge of the bridge.

Here's some good starting principles.  Whether or not you are working with a Floyd, or any other bridge, always start with the intonation point, then engineer in order to ensure that the intonation point remains exactly where it should be no matter what type of bridge you are using.
