New bass neck day (kinda)

Just received my Maple/Pau Ferro Jazz bass replacement.
Since it shipped while the temp was in the 50/60s and it decided to go down to the single digits all I'm willing to do is look at it for the next 24 hours while it warms up.
Also purchased Schaller BML tuning machines and Hipshot 3 string retainer (from outside retailer).

I got home after running errands and it warmed up, so I gave it a proper look over and have come across a problem area on the back corner.  I've emailed them (since I got home minutes after call hours).
I noticed in the second picture of the glint from the initial opening picture.
Here's a (very large) shot of it: http://i.imgur.com/YoRKtDJ.jpg
Part of me feels bad for complaining, but I know it'll bug the snot out of me if I didn't.

Is that a chip or a run ?
I've never done my own finishing, so I'm honestly not sure what the difference is.

I took a couple other closeups of the affected area for the curious (also large pic warning)

I can't tell for sure, but it sorta looks like a crush injury. Like it took a bang somehow. Have a look at the box and see if there's any evidence there. If so, the shipper should be held liable.

I checked the box almost immediately. It looks great. The headstock was wrapped in foam and a million peanuts were in there too.
I've already got my eye on two other necks in the showcase, just in case.

I received the return label information today. So while I'm bummed there was an issue, I'm glad it's being taken care of swiftly.

It probably threw a fit and hurt itself when it found out it wasn't getting gold hardware.

That took longer than it should have to register to me, but then:
