I built a new warmouth strat with 2 humbuckers & one single coil in the middle. I got a RW/RP single coil in the middle. they are all seymour duncan pickups but when I do not touch the strings I get a buzz. I am sure everything is grounded. Is it because of the single coil. It hums when I take my hands off the strings in any position.

Single coils are always noisy - it's the nature of the beast. You've essentially got a mile-long antenna hanging out in the breeze, and no amount of shielding will help it. But, you should only hear it when that pickup is selected, either by itself or in combination with the 'buckers. If you have hum all the time, it's possible you've got the output jack wired backwards. It'll still work, but it'll make noise no matter what pickup is selected.

Your body is acting as a huge ground plane and shielding the thing. There's a ground missing somewhere in there. Maybe the bridge ground wire is broken?

as i think of it, i might of left off a ground wire that goes from the volume pot to the 5 way switch. let you know

moth mouth! It was the ground wire I supected. Been sober a long time so I have no excuse for the spelling!
