NDD - New Dog Day

Our current dogs were born into the family (the mom is with my brother in law). But the previous one came from an animal shelter. She arrived there in a big cardboard box, with her seven one-day-old pups in a second box. The 'dad' was a Berner Sennen and the pups looked like cute, cuddly little bear cubs. They were adopted within hours - but the mom remained behind. A terrier - beagle mongrel, dilated beyond proportion by carrying seven oversized puppies. Somehow she stole our hearts when we spent a bit of time with her, and after adopting her, the ten years she was with us were a true gift. Sweetest thing you can imagine. Except for a tendency to kill poultry - and ravage whatever entered our mailbox. Doug knows what I mean...

Animal shelter/rescue dogs are often the best ones. Our first dog was a rescued German Shepherd/coyote (we were told) mix. That was one special dog. Smart as they come with a crafty sense of humor. She'd do things and watch to see how you would react. Shed like crazy, especially spring and fall.

Hmmm... There's a pattern... Ours shed like crazy too and somehow she managed to keep it up all year round.

Yep. Dust bunnies galore.

The one we have now has the shortest fur I've ever seen. Maybe little or no shedding this time with those knobby, fur gathering gloves.

Looks like what I use on my cat. Short hair, but plenty of it!
I believe that. Cats are 95% fur and 5% attitude.

Hmmm... I'd say 95% fur and 95% attitude...
(Yes, according to me cats have a different set of mathematics where percentages can go above 100)

You're probably on to something, there.

I'd say DEFINITELY on to something.....

So that established, Dillon (the cat) actually came up to the new pup without a problem. It didn't last long but it was forward progress.

He'll come around, as soon as she's damned good and ready, that is! Cats gotta do stuff on their own terms.

Although not perfect, cat relations are improving. Yes, on her (cat's) own terms, too.
