I suspect this guy has some amber dye on here, but it doesn't look at all bad to me:

Warmoth warns against nasty mineral streaks in basswood, maybe this guy got lucky? It's no less figured than mahogany or alder. I know basswood's soft, but I don't worry about dings on my keepers anyway. I have a lovely-playing Ibanez RG7421 with a "cherry fudge" finish that's slowly chipping itself off, as that era Ibanez are wont to do. I'd be hard to look much worse raw - though I am overtly fond of woody-looking guitars.
