I took in my 3 yr old Fiat 500 Sport to the dealership to get a damaged tire replaced, and several hours later left with a new Abarth. You can hear it coming - it's got that glorious Italian sports car sound, and the thing is like a little rocket. I love it. If you like fast little cars with style and attitude, check these out:

Man that looks amazing. Not too big a fan of the exterior, but then that interior shot. Oh man.

THAT is one of the funnest and most obnoxious cars I've ever driven and I love the exhaust note.  Every time I see one on the road, I roll my windows down and just smile.  Best "second" car you could possibly have.  That little beast is a hooligan!

I was just going to make a similar post, but I'll dovetail here.  I just traded in a 460HP 2014 Mustang and got into a 180hp Mazda3.  I'm way down on HP and Tq, but I am not missing it!  This car is engaging, has perfect pedal placement, AMAZING shifter feel, and the suspension is tuned for fun.

The thing about cars like these is that you can wring the life out of them and really enjoy them for what they are.  With the GT, I loved the brute force, but missed the finesse of a great chassis.  Cars like that Abarth are just amazing value for the money and for people that are into driving, they are riotous fun!

Happy hooning!

I know what you mean about the Mazda... my daughter has a Mazda 3 and absolutely loves it. When she lets me drive it, I'm always surprised by how much power it has for only a 2 liter engine, and the handling and overall feel of it is absolutely top notch. I'd pass up a 3 series for one of these in a second. I also am with you on the value and concept of smaller but more nimble cars. For a while a number of years ago my daily driver was a Porsche 928, and the Abarth is at least as much fun to drive as that was. Maybe more, because it just feels more zippy at "civilian" speeds - and the seats are very similar in both (both racing type supportive seats). Yep, I'm a happy camper.

I did a little video clip for the sound... let's see if I can post it here:

The thing is brand new... I didn't want to rev it up like an idiot  :icon_biggrin:

Kind of parallel to the low wattage amps that are all the rage these days.  Marshall roar at bedroom levels. Very cool.

That's a pretty neat metaphorical way to look at these kinds of "pocket rockets" like this or the Minis, but it breaks down insofar as the Abarth has "full size" acceleration, speed and handling.

I've got Twin-air 500, the little engine is amazing, it's not by any measure the most powerful car I've ever driven, but the 0.9L engine it gets 0-30 with more nip than 2.0L cars I've driven.
