Mother of Pearl vs. Pearloid Inlays

So, I tried searching and didn't find what I was looking for...I was thinking of getting a neck with dot inlays, but having Warmth use the lighting bolt inlay at the 12th fret only.  The problem is that the dots will have to be mother of pearl and the lightning bolt will have to be pearloid.  They can't do both out of a single material - I checked.

Do, does anyone have any ideas how close mother of pearl will be to pearloid inlays visually?  Anyone have a pic of either (or preferably both) material(s) installed in a neck inlay?

Sadly I can't compare on the same neck, but side by side with two different necks you can tell the difference.

May I suggest that you do the dots in MOP, but the lightning bolt in a completely different color of pearloid?  Then the difference, although obvious, will appear to be intentional.

Same basic idea, but I'd just lose the dots completely and just have the 12th marked.

I thought about this as well - I just don't trust myself... I am trying to pay attention to how often I actually look at the fretboard for reference and if I'm using the side dots or looking at the fretboard itself.  I've been playing for years, but I still feel like a beginner  :dontknow:

I guarantee that you won't look at face dots that are not there.

I was a little apprehensive about my first dotless fretboard, but as it worked out it took me about 8 seconds to get used to it. I still need markers, but the side dots are plenty.

I find (or can’t find) side dots about 50% of the time in my stage lighting.  And I’m sorry to say, I need dots above position 5 when starting a song. Don’t need much of one.  Just small ones, even offset to low E side (ala Godin).  Hint hint to the Warmoth dev team.

I personally find that I also need the dots on stage.  Nothing like being in the middle of that screaming solo when the lights change and you can no longer $&%^#^ find where the 9'th fret is.

Annoying, that.

Use the force, Luke.

Glow-in-the-dark side dots. Problem solved.

Two words: klieg lights. aka: stage lights, spotlights. They'll also keep your fingers warm. And if the singer gets jealous, well, you've got an 8lb bat in your hands. Use it! Knock the talentless showboating pain in the ass out! Should be good for a round of applause :laughing7:

Not a viable solution for when I’m playing at church LOL

Ah, yes. The dreaded "no batting" line item in the rider. Well, there's always votive candles. Light one of those babies up, say a prayer for finger dexterity to saint Jimi, the patron saint of guitarists, put a dollar in the priest's brandy fund box, and hope for the best. Or, get some glow-in-the-dark fretmarkers.

Just call them “money changers”, then you’ll be supported by precedent  :icon_jokercolor:
