Just wondering about this because I saw that EMG sells a 150 dollar cable. I thought, "150 dollars!? I felt like an boom-boom the time I paid 40 dollars for a cable!"

Yesterday I went out and looked for a Planet Waves cable with kill switch, but none of the stores i visited had one in stock.
But I'll be getting one soon so I think that would make my first choice of $25-$50 jump to $50-$75.

Mine I had made by guitar cable, com
Gotham cable with Neutrik plugs (1 a shorting plug) 30' length. An excellent and transparent cable. Easily under 50 and blows away the high dollar name cables.

Been so long since I bought one I have no idea what I paid. ???

That said, am contemplating one of these:

From divine noise.

Anyone tried Mogami cables. I might be buying a couple of new ones soon so just curious on any feedback.

Mogami cables are nice. You'll like them. The pre-made ones can be a bit pricey though, primarily because of music store mark-up, not because they're being abusive themselves. I use their cable and Neutrik ends to make my own. Saves a ton of money and I end up with high-end cables at a fraction of the price.

If you want to do the same thing, Mogami cable can be had fairly inexpensively. For instance, this low-impedance stuff is only $.17/ft, which means a 20' length of cable is only $3.40. Add some Neutrik connectors from the same place for $3 to $5 each, and you're only looking at maybe less than $10 for a high-end, low-impedance, ultra-flexible cord. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Of course, you need to know how to strip and solder effectively, but that's not tough to learn. And at those prices, you can afford to make some mistakes.

Best cable I have is a Fender Performance Series 10' in black tweed. Cost me $16 on Amazon, I really have no need for a longer run, but I also have a 18' Hosa should the need arise.

Interestingly enough,  I still have a cable from at LEAST 40 years ago. It's 12', gray plastic, coiled, and has plastic connectors at both ends. It's still as solid as the day I bought it, and I still use it between my equally ancient pre-amp and my amp when playing my Epiphone SST.

I too am still using an old cable, bought in the ’80s I believe. It's a Pro Co 120S (just checked), and is in great shape. Don't recall what it cost.

Still, am jonesing for the purple one pictured above. :glasses10:

Thanks Cagey, that's useful info.

Soldering and so forth isn't a problem. I'll have to see if I can find a local source for the cable.

I recently had a bunch made up.  Canare wire and Neutrik connectors.  Better than anything you can buy and I think the average price was $15 each.  Oh - and I used the groovy Neutrik ends with the kill switches.  They work very well.

I've currently got my most expensive cable ever. Fender braided tweed lined with a straight plug on one end and an L shaped one on the other.

I love those shorting plugs.

This is where I had mine made (as well as other cables: XLR, MIDI, Ys, TRS, etc)

They no longer carry Gotham. The responded and suggested CA-0446. This is what they said:

I would like to suggest our CA-0446 cable. This is our instrument cable and outperforms the Mogami 2524 and Canare GS-6 with ½ of the capacitance of the other two cables. In addition, this is the cable that all of the artists under our artist program are using for their instrument runs. This includes Brad Paisley, Metallica, Ted Nugent, and many others. They are using this both for live applications and in the studio for most cases. The cable lays nice on the stage and will not tangle up like many of the other ones on the market. Another great aspect of it is the durability that the cable offers.

If you are looking to buy pre-made assemblies, any of the cables featured on this page are using the CA-0446 cable - http://btpa.com/High-Definition/

They also carry Mogami and Canare. Their cables come with Velcro ties, and they tend to throw in a present. Really a great company to deal with.
