Well, the title pretty much sums it up. I have a VW body (pictured in my avatar) now with a Warmoth headstock neck. I'm not keen on using the trem with an angled headstock, even with locking tuners. So, I have a 7/8 24 fret LSR equipped neck I'd like to use on this body. Is it worth the trouble and expense, and what would be involved exactly?
I'm assuming modification to the neck joint, would neck pickup position be an issue?

what you need to pay attention to here is scale length. what scale length is your neck? you can determine this by measuring from the nut to the 12th fret and doubling the distance.

you say you have a 7/8 neck, standard around here is 25.5" so 7/8 of that would be 22.3125" (measure your neck to be sure).

Rather than modify the neck joint I would probably move the bridge location. If you go to stewmac.com and use the fret spacing calculator you can find bridge placement geometry below the fret measurements for your specific scale length.

this would be a huge modification that's probably not worth the effort, it will substantially change the look of your guitar and you will also have to move the bridge pickup (the bottom of the pickup cavity should be about 1" above the scale length) along with the bridge. and then fill in any holes left behind from the old hardware.

A more difficult alternative would be lowering the neck pocket (while keeping it square to the centerline) and repositioning the neck pickup, possibly also having to fill in any gaps left over from the old neck pickup cavity. Cheers,

Like he's saying, it all comes down to the measurement from the nut to 12th fret.

That's going to be tough if it's really going to 22.3" from a 25.5" scale.   That's a 3.2" difference you'll have to lose somewhere between the nut and the bridge.  It doesn't matter where you lose it to intonate properly.  The limiting factors are physical playability and aesthetics.  Adding a 24 fret extension into the mix means the neck pup rout is way off in the first place.

Sounds like you'd have to fill in most of the body, rerout almost everything, and touch up/repaint.  It's do-able but requires some routing and finishing skills.

The easy way out is to order a new 7/8 body, with everything already routed.  This kills the VW idea through Warmoth at least, but someone else might do one custom for you.

Thanks for the replies. It's just not a feasible mod to perform, I can see.
