Is it a bad idea tonally to combine 3 pickups of different brands? I'm thinking of a Seymour Duncan P-Rails for the bridge, a Vintage Vibe pickup in the middle, and a DiMarzio Area '67 in the neck.

Thanks.

I don't have matched brands on ANY of my passive guitars. I like to do that because I want the sound I want without being tied to one brand. I think i'ts the only way to get Excatly what you want.

on my ACTIVEs I use all EMG. I don't mix em up there.

The only thing I could see, and it has nothing to do with mixing brands, is how they voice together.  There's Dimarzios that don't sound good with other Dimarzios, and SDs that don't sound good with other SDs.  I had an SD Screamin' Demon a few years back.  I didn't care for it by itself, but it sounded horrible with other SD pickups.  As far as mixing brands, if it sounds good, it sounds good.  The original Strats had 3 way switches that didn't mix any of the pickup sounds together.  Seeing how none of them were voiced together, they could all be very different sounding pickups.

One of my FAVORITE combinations is a Super Distortion in the bridge and a re-wound Gibson 490R in the neck of my mutt electric (Blues Saraceno basswood body with a USACG Maple/Maple neck; hardtail).  Trust your ear, man!
