Mic in the middle pickup position for a acoustic effect?

Listen I know having a mic on a normal electric guitar won't give you a acoustic guitar effect, but would it be possible to have a mic on a electric guitar in a clean setting for a bit of a hybrid electric/acoustic guitar?

Given the sound of an acoustic guitar is mostly the top vibrating sympathetically with the strings, I'd say there's no place to mic a solid-body electric that will get you there.  You can jury-rig it the way countless manufacturers have done it by getting piezoelectric saddles and amplifying that signal with appropriate signal processing.  I suppose you might also get some action out of a contact mic like some fiddlers use, but I have no idea how viable that is for a solid bodied electric.

There are some surprisingly effective acoustic modelling pedals out there that are dramatically more effective and less expensive than trying to mic an electric. For your first attempt, I'd highly recommend Behringer's AM400 Ultra Acoustic Modeler. For $50, it's a fairly inexpensive experiment. There are other pedals out there that do the same thing, but they get a bit pricey for an experiment.

Piezos on electric can be fun in all sorts of unexpected ways. Fauxoustic is why most people usem em, but honestly it's kind of a shame. You can blend em in at medium levels and the guitar behaves and sounds like you're playing at ear splitting levels. Or get creative and use different processing on the piezos and magnetics.. Fun fun
