But they don't know whether it'll dent like metal or shatter like glass ... it's 70 percent empty space ... you could one day fill that space with living organisms ... or batteries ...  as strong as titanium but four to five times lighter and it floats ... the biggest piece they've made is a foil one sq centimeter.

Needs more work.

I read that the other day.... Sounds like the answer to a question no one asked.

There are lots of things that have come from answers to questions nobody asked, though.  Basic research and "Hm, that's interesting..." is the stuff our modern lives are built upon.

My view on this particular phenomenon is that, as with many other answers to questions nobody asked, is that it may be a very good answer to a whole different question someone may very well ask now that they have a clue from an existing answer.

My first thought was great for headstock tuners, or truss rods, or pickguards, but they can only make a piece of foil less than the width of a thumbnail ... phhh ... I'm not waiting for it.

Engineers have asked.
There is a something of a revolution occurring in the material sciences, especially in the nano tech.
Lighter weight, stronger materials could have huge ramifications across the entire manufacturing spectrum.

I could totally see the possible applications in building things with this stuff. Hell, they even mention in the article that they may be able to infuse this material with batteries, which could be very cool in things like phones (your entire phone could hold a charge). And yes, being a guitar nerd, I'd kind of love to see/hear a guitar made out of it.  :icon_biggrin:

I bet the tone sucks - or will be perceived as such by guitar players.
