Maple Neck color and finish

Hi

I want to be sure to get the right neck finish and maple type

I don't like finish too yellow or too light, I like in between.  I noticed that over the last years Fender necks tend to be too light.  My 2001 Fender American standard has a little yellow color, like a small vintage look.  However my American Vintage 62 has a really yellow tint.  I think the Warmoth vintage finish is more like my 62 vintage.  Is it true ?

I post 3 links of fender, I like the color of the #c.  You will see the difference with the #a and #b.

a - http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0119002720 - too light
b - http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0131002304 - too yellow
c - http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0139202305

Does anybody know If I could get something closer to the #c with warmoth neck wood & finish ?

thanks

Thats easy.
You buy the neck unfinished and a few pieces of scrap maple.
Do the finish yourself after testing it on scrap maple for the right color.

+1.

I used boiled linseed oil on my neck - it feels like nothing at all, and it gave it just the slightest bit of coloring so it's not so papery light like that first one. I bet you'd like it plenty and it's easy to apply

But an oil finish means no warranty from Warmoth.  :dontknow:

exactly, no warranty

I finally made my order and after talked to Bob I choose to go with Vintage finish...

Did you go satin or gloss?

For future reference, Tru-Oil (actually a varnish, warranty is not void) is a pretty good way to finish a maple neck.

Are you sure about that?

The warranty will be void if the neck does not get a hard shell finish in 30 days of delivery. We do not consider oil finishes or poorly applied wipe-on finishes adequate protection.

this is covered in many threads, this is the first i found...

Tru-Oil is a varnish. That is not disputed.

As for application, tru-oil is not hard to apply. If you apply it incorrectly, that's your fault. Same as a nitro or poly lacquer.

Fender Neck Amber + Gloss or Satin nitro lacquer.  The Fender Neck Amber is available from reranch.com or stewmac.com; it's a rattlecan toner/tint, and you shoot it on in very light coats; the heavier you apply or more coats, the darker the amber color gets, so you can control how dark/deep the color becomes.

the 2 year finish is for necks finished by Warmoth
i was talking about if fournij finished the neck in Tru-oil

I wish they would rename Tru-Oil. Something like "It's really just fother mucking varnish!" would suffice.

BTW, thanks for the backup, Patrick
