Hey everyone, I am currently working on a guitar with an all padauk neck. I needed up having to use poplar for a body wood instead of mahogany, which I was just going to oil. The poplar is going to need a color obviously, but I'm at a loss for what would look good with the bright orange neck  :icon_scratch:

Any suggestions I will look into, but I will say I am quite partial to blues. Any pictures will be great :icon_thumright:

Also, since it's not worth a thread of its own, would a few coats of shellac seal the wood up nicely since it'll be after winter when I can spray? Am I correct in remembering that shellac sits fine under nitro?

Thanks guys!

Can't comment on whether it'll sit under nitro, but I've finished a maple neck in shellac and love it. Great ALMOST unfinished feel, but with some protection. Also, I think shellac is supposed to be universal

Shellac will work just fine as a sealer under nitro.

For color, how about a pelham blue?

Sonic or daphne blue could also look real nice.

Blue and orange are going to look like some kind of deranged sports uniform colors. Black or white will go with anything, or you might consider candy tangerine. The neck is eventually going to turn brown, at which point you'd still match up. Here's an example, but with an Ebony fretboard...

Then, picture this up against it...

Dollars to donuts nobody else shows up at the party dressed like that.

Whoa, sorry I forgot I made this thread haha.

I am liking that pelham blue, I have wanted to try get something that color...that is probably the way I will go :icon_thumright:
