I'm trying to do something many of you have probably thought of before. I'm trying to come up with a guitar design that covers two bases.

1. Moderately original.
2. Not ugly.

I use SketchUp for most of my models as it helps me see things from all angles, even if its a blocky, poorly-textured angle. I got to goofing around on my old models and cannibalized a bridge that I made months ago and some pickups I made last week and put it on a body blank that is roughly 20"x10" so I could go all Thunderbird if I wanted to.

Then I sat and stared at this blank for two days. Now I'm asking for ideas. The original thought was to make a block and cut away everything that doesn't look like a bass.

I've attached a random two-minute doodle, some other models I've done and what I am currently staring at until either a bass forms or my eyeballs explode. Any thoughts? I was thinking cherry body and wenge neck, four-string, definitely with a pickguard of some sort as I just like how they look.

I don't know what I'm going for here. I just figured I'd take some fresh insight into anything I've posted. All designs unofficially (C)Me, especially the bridge. I've been talking to Taipan Tone about making a real one.

I'm going to go get more coffee.

I like the plank in the second drawing. It is minimalist while being very straight forward and cool.

That's just a rectangle I made to cut a guitar out of...  :toothy12:

Now add a carved top, gut cut, and arm cut.

I dig the plank. I have been considering doing a variation on that for sometime now. There are a few variations that were called "Cadillacs" if memory serves me correctly. I seem to remember Bo or no.... who was the lady who was supposed to be his "counterpart"...? Was it "Lady Bo" or Norma Jean,, anyway there were some pretty way out guitars they used. I would love to see a modern take on the ol' plank.
