Nice catch, Mr. Latty.

If you're in the market for a neck, I have a Warmoth Vintage Modern Tele neck in gloss vintage tint, maple fingerboard, drilled for klusons - I'd let it go at a reasonable price to a brother from here on the Unofficial board.

EDIT - It has nickel 6150 frets, and a white corian? graphtech? nut.

Hell of an offer Baggy, but I got different plans for this. That old Tele hardware and pickups I bought a couple years ago is gonna finally get some use, and barring it intonates properly, as well it should. She's also gonna get... prepare for blasphemy, that 25.5 in scale LP neck I got with the hardware.

Always wanted the tele tone, always disliked the tele headstock.

So guy's... Don't have a drill press... how do I go about drilling straight holes. I have a craftsman power drill and an army of drill bits which some size should work for the screws.. but how do I get it straight?

Should free hand be enough, I'm shaky with nothing in my hands but I've drilled before and the results were generally favorable. Thought a center punch should help.

Also I won't ask you guys to give me a full list of the bit sizes for the bridge, tuner, strap lock, and pick guard screws, but do you know a place I can find em'?

If it helps, Gotoh modern tele bridges, 3+3 Gotoh Tuners, Standard Fender strap lock, basic pickguard (still looking)

Thank you,

-Dayton (As much as I love being called Mr. Latty)

I don't know exactly what it is called in English.

But such a "free hand drill stand" as pictured is rather inexpensive.

They're sometimes called a "Portalign", or more simply just "drill guide". You can buy a couple different models here. They generally don't get good reviews, but I suspect maybe people expect too much out of them. They're not a drill press or a replacement for one; it's simply a jig to help you line your drill motor up perpendicular to the work surface, or center up on round dowels/pipes or board edges. I had one about 30 years ago that I got some good use out of. Downside is you sorta gotta dedicate a drill motor to it, as they require you to remove the chuck and install it on the jig, then install the jig on the drill motor.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but most of it I would think you could drill without a drill press.  The one exception is the string holes. I wouldn't want to just free hand drill those; however, you may be able to make a jig out of some hard wood, plastic, aluminum or other piece of scrap you might fine.  Even if you only get one hole drilled in the jig that you can validate is reasonably straight, you should be able to line it up to each hole and feel pretty confident you're goona get a nice straight hole.

BTW...That should make a nice looking guitar!!!

Thanks guys, but I've just got ahold of the old man's drill, craftsman, with a back mounted level for drilling straight down. Used it before building a trailer, works wonders. Also a perfectly flat top of the drill, flat top body, so I'm going to brace it with a flat cut block of scrap wood to help steady the drill and freehand it. I've always loved hand done over complex machinery, even if the final product isn't as flashy. It's got a better feel to it.

Also can't wait for the body to get here. Should be soon since it shipped out from Ohio, being that I'm in Michigan.
