Little kids' electric guitar review

My friend's daughter is turning 6 years old at the end of July and she likes playing my guitar when she visits. When trying to think of a birthday present, her mom said she'd probably love a little guitar - of course I knew she meant a plastic acoustic, but  :evil4: I had to get her the real deal - a 31" electric with one Strat pickup and one volume knob, a miniature scale neck and body, but normal size hardware. I have to say, for about $35, I'm impressed - the neck is maple and probably the fretboard too. The body is finished in solid pink so it could be anything, but I can tell that most of the weight is in the neck and hardware. I think I'm as excited as she will be - I rocked out for a while after work today when it came in the mail. The sound is what you would expect for any really cheap stock pickup, but it's consistent and the volume knob works smoothly. That's about it, unless I decide to sunburst it and throw in a humbucker and switches (just kidding). We'll see how it holds up to abuse but I'll say it's definitely worth the price - I got this one with a little amp for about $10 more, including strap, a little gig bag, big jumbo picks, etc. Her parents will hate me but this thing will rock her birthday. So if you're looking for a cool musical gift for a young kid, and until Warmoth starts making these tiny guitars  :glasses10:, this is the next best thing. They have other models with 2 or 3 pickups that are meant for around 8 years old, but this is the super small (and cheaper) one for about 5 years old. They sell these guitars all over the place with different brand names on the headstock, but you can get different colors and it looks like this (I had a couple of old pink cables to match it):

I think it looks awesome - the HUGE problem with kid guitars is keeping them tuned up. A locking nut would make the kid and her parents very, very happy. Every time I visit my buddy I tune his daughter's little guitar back to open G, for the whole family's sake.

I tuned it up for her but for now she won't even care - she just grabs the neck and strums randomly while singing.
