the colour i mean.

i ordered a maple/brazilian rosewood neck. on the showcase the fretboard looked pretty dark and i thought it would complement nicely the black jazzmaster body i had also bought.

but the neck came in yesterday and though the fretboard has nice figuring, still its colour is actually quite light - not dark at all.

:-(

Get out yer lemon oil and oil it up.

Ditto.  You'd be surprised how much it'll darken up with just a little lemon oil.  If you don't believe me, take a look at our youngest Aussie's Walnut soloist.  It was very light, and now, with just a little tung oil,  it has a nice, chocolate color.

You can really see the difference in the routs.  You're fretboard is just a little dried out, and some lemon oil will give it back that wonderful color and sheen.

well i don't have any lemon oil - can you guys recommend a brand that i can try? and i'm not sure where i can get it either.

is this good?

All raw wood fingerboards darken up over time from use. Now if you wanted it lighter, that would be a problem.

You can probably get lemon oil at a hardware store.  Orange oil is pretty much the same stuff... I use orange oil because I bought a quart of the stuff for like 3 bucks and I only use a drop every so often.

I got mine from a hardware store as well in a jug.  It's lasted 15 years so far...

Mineral oil works great and you can eat it! You can find it at the local pharmacy for cheap. No, seriously, you can eat it.... it'l just clean you out. Check the label.

Do NOT follow the above advice. Yes, it will clean you out. Make sure your bathroom is fairly entertaining, because that's where you'll be spending the next week.

Spoken from experience?

1961, Arcadia Texas, made the mistake of complaining to Grandma about a tummy ache. You do not want any further details. Let's just say that if the EPA existed then, that five acre lot would to this day be considered a SuperSite.
