Can lacquer paint be used under nitro?  I am looking to for a good rattle can paint that can mimic the black peg head color of a Gibson.  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If I understand correctly, nitro is short for nitrocellulose lacquer. Lacquer over lacquer is perfectly fine. Lacquer over enamel is not so fine. They use different carrier media and lacquer requires a "hotter" carrier, that is more volatile. So spraying a lacquer over an enamel paint will melt into the enamel, causing the underlying enamel paint to wrinkle, bubble and will make you to say all kinds of words you might not usually use in polite company, not to mention having to sand it all off and start over.

Remember when spraying any paint, especially lacquers, have great ventilation, low humidity and comfortable temperature. Use a respirator, not just those flimsy paper masks! Protect your lungs for better things, like breathing in your old age!

You should be able to find a good gloss black lacquer spray paint at your local hardware store.

Before attempting any paint combinations that you're not absolutely certain of, try them on something that either you don't care about, or someplace that will be hidden from casual observation.
