i am looking for the snappy tight tele sound but not so much treble would korina be a good fit or would i sacrifice the tele character with it?

the wood adds some character but mostly it's the pickups. Korina/mahogany/rosewood/goncalo/warm woods + a normal set of tele pups might do the trick.

Tone knobs help  :laughing7:

Seriously, I roll it down to... I have no idea. 7 maybe. It sounds great.

Korina is great, get it if you like the look. For tele character, get a trad tele bridge (callaham, joe barden, glendale) and a good tele bridge pup and you'll be all right. Using your tone controls or amp tone controls is also a good idea if you like less treble.

thanks guys i actually do know about tone knobs, but i figured instead of having a guitar that has so much brightness to it maybe i could build with a warmer tone wood and get more use out of the tone knob rather than just using the lower range of it.  if that makes sense.  i guess i just want to make sure that i wouldn't lose the snappy tight sound by going to a warmer tone wood.

I think to get the true character of a tele you would have to go with the swamp ash.

I can't say I've tried a a korina Tele, but I have played a mahogany one with stock American Tele pickups and a maple/rosewood neck through an AC30.  It still distinctly sounded like Tele.  :icon_thumright:

I wouldn't ever use Korina personally.  Basically because I don't like opaque finishes..and it would have to be an opaque finish because I think it looks like barn wood.  Swamp Ash on the other hand, thats a different story.  I haven't seen a transparent finish on Swamp Ash I didn't like.

Ha

Normally, Swamp Ash looks more barn doorish to me than Korina.

I live here in Iowa and there are huge amounts of barns that have sat in the elements rotting and to me its that wood that reminds me of Korina.  Kind of a grayish, with odd grain and discolored spots/streaks.  If you like Korina thats great.  Just not for me.
