Hi guys here i have a mind which still haunts me down for a 7 string built.... which particular i was thinking of doing a koa body with a 1/4 flamed maple top ... may i know what would the sound be like??? would it resambles more like the usual mahogany body with maple top? i heard koa would sounds abit brighter but just how much is that worth hunting down comparison between african mahogany to a koa ?? looking in terms of sound, cost and durability of wood kindly advice please  :rock-on:

I dnt think warmoth will do a koa back, because this wood is so rare and precious and good-looking. they think its a shame to put this kind of wood on a back of a guitar.

but let me tell you, the differences in sound are not so huge as it might seem; take limba/korina, that wood has a bit more treble than mahogany.

Thanks there for your nice advice !!! i was kinda looking for abit more bite on the tone of my guitar and long sustain as well... guess black limba would foot the bill for me with a flamed maple top on it?? .... yet black limba is kinda hell sexy wood too LOL... anyway yeah thanks alot really ;)

There's also a Walnut option if you wanna consider a good looking wood, with decent sustain properties. A fair bit brighter than mahogany.

From the wood description of Warmoth's, they rate the walnut close to maple in tone characteristics.

And, unlike maple, it will look good just clear lacquered which is a lot cheaper if you look at the expense of having it finished too.

i think Mahogany would fit in the niche with a flamed maple top. but i like the idea too for a black limba again it holds me back abit after hearing is a soft wood and experience from a threader who posted his as said: The limba it seems not able to hold the pressure built for a floyd rose unit.the wood just sinks forward with the trem studs/post which is sitting on when the floyd rose is mounted and tuned up.

I do not think Warmoth would offer that option if it failed the way you suggest.  Quite honestly, I have see quite a number of crappy quick fix jobs on seven strings, a friend loves 7 string guitars, and most of the time it is a poor install/crappy stud.  If you like a wood they offer, get it.  The body will not color the sound as much as other factors, like pickups or the neck.  But, Mahogany or Korina on a solid body guitar are great choices.

Thanks there guys ;) i'll go with mahogany on teh safer side  :guitarplayer2: guess black limba is eye catching but is abit risky being it as a soft wood.

mahogany and korina ar both just as soft. I'd take korina. it not that the body will crumble away; its not spalted maple or spalted beech.
