wondering if anyone's every taken a row of pole pieces off an invader or invader style pickup? I'm thinking about getting a set and putting pickup covers on them, how do they sound with only one row of pole pieces on?

I have a set and wouldn't change them a bit. The BHCS poles are what gives 'em their uniqueness...

I imagine they would sound so completely different that you would be better off getting a pickup with a cover in the first place.
If you swapped out the big screws that would have to go under the cover to some smaller ones that would fit, then maybe you would retain some of its sound characteristics. But that's a big maybe.

I have a custom set of singles I had made for me with the large BHCS for poles, and they are way different than any other singles I've used...

These are DR6's..And as far as I know, these are the only ones in existence...

Taking a row of screws out would essentially turn them into a single coil with a dummy coil attached.

Seymour Duncan makes an Invader single coil. There's some cheap versions on eBay too.
Most likely came up with them after I had the idea. At the time I had them made, the invader was just in hum version...

How do they sound? They look killer.  :occasion14:
They sound incredible, they were custom wound, not your average off the shelf strat singles. So they don't have any of the standard strat thin sound. They are real beefy, much like the Invaders are.

I'm thinking now that replacing the lower row with a set of normal pieces would be better instead of just taking them out all together, besides, I'm thinking about maybe putting them in a guitar with a coil split
