I've not thought too heavily about the pickup, maybe go old school with a DiMarzio Super Distortion or I fancy trying a Bareknuckle Mule. Any thoughts?

Bare Knuckle all the way! But if you're thinking in something alike Super Distortion, you'll better get a Holydiver or a Nailbomb... The Mule is basically a PAF, it's made uppon Gov't Mule tone... Suits more 60's e 70's rock tones
