I'm in the process of building my first guitar! Help please?

Again, you certainly can palm mute a floyd, but it is a bit trickier, more sensitive.  EVH had no problems though...

The gibson pickup IMO is pretty meh.  In the neck position it is even more meh.  Look at more of the Dimarzio line (as long as you don't shorten the leads Dimarzio will allow you to swap a pickup that you don't like for another type - great when you are not 100% sure what the guitar needs.)

Different pots will affect the overall output of the guitar.  Lower pot values present less resistance to ground.  If you have a tone circuit this generally results in loss of more treble as compared to higher value pots.  Pots are cheap, buy both values and do some experimenting.

No tone circuit means no appreciable treble loss from the pickup, you could also get (or make) what is termed a no-load pot.  When turned up all the way it is electrically removed from the circuit - just like not having a tone pot, but when you start to turn it down it becomes active again.

You are starting to get a better picture of what is involved in building your own guitar.  Keep looking for more info.  There are plenty of other builder type sites out on the web with lots of resources.  It is essential that you have a clear vision of what it is that you want.

If you do not know where you are going odds are you will end up someplace else.
