If you love Les Paul guitars I highly recommend you go check this thread at the Les Paul Forum.  Mike is a huge collector and he scored so many of the 50th Anniversary Lester’s this year that it is worth while just to see them all in one place. The best thing is if you ever need to defend you next guitar purchase to the love of you life you can show them this and tell them to be thankful that you are not as bad as this guy.

What is with all the hoopla over the mismatched top?  Multipiece tops that aren't bookmatched can look okay, but this looked like an attempt to find 2 pieces that wouldn't even come close to matching.

For $72,000.00 you cant touch a real one.  Nor for double that.  Or triple.  You can get one, however, for about four times that price.  There are only so many... whats it, well under a thousand real ones out there.  Lots and lots of fakes.

Amazing collection.  I'd love to have a fraction of that (a large fraction :icon_biggrin:)

I certainly hope they all get some play time.

I've heard of 1960 LP fetching in the area of $400,000... :dontknow:

those are not real ones, just cnc junk. not that all cnc are junk. these are real ones
made in Kalamazoo on the old jigs by the old men.

I think it was Stubhead that said there are more '59 LPs accounted for than were actually made.

Anybody hear about the 1958 Gibson Explorer with Bigsby (less than 100 made) that fetched $611,000 at Skinner Auctions in 2006?

wow! words defy me ...

but (even if i had that much dough to splurge) i would rather have one or two LPs that i love to play and love their sound, than a whole range of them.

likewise with strats or jazzmasters or SGs or 335s or firebirds or Vees (that is pretty much the entire set of my favorites) - one or maximum two of each.

i think too many of each would leave me confused and unable to pick/settle on a favorite one. and once i pick a favorite i am likely to push the other one out - maybe to make space for something else.

Both of those threads are really disgusting. That is so so much money to blow on far more guitars than any one person can truly enjoy. That is just hoarding. I can't even fathom that kind of excess.
