OK, I was over a friends house on the weekend, and he has from what looks correct a circa 1973/74 Ibanez 2380 Les Paul Recording. From what we can tell its a direct copy of the Gibson version, as this was pre lawsuit.

It sounds and plays beautifully, apart from the one small problem. Neck pickup seems to have no output at all. From what he tells me this only started happening in the last few weeks. We will try testing this a bit more, but I think finding a replacement for this is going to be very difficult, as the originals were copies of the Gibson low-z's (low impedance stacked humbucker), and from what I can see they are pretty much non existent as replacements.

If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to leave a comment. Thanks, and help would be very appreciated.

What a cool axe! If it truly doesn't work and you need the pickup re-wound, most of the boutique shops will do it for the right price. Should be worth it for a rarity like that.

I have a Greco copy of the Les paul Recording and the bridge pup died on it - same thing, intermittent and then refused to work. Turned out to be the solde on the ends of the pickup wiring. I took the cover of the pickup (very carefully!) and I resoldered those joins and it works now!

Thanks guys. We finally got a chance to pull this apart on the weekend. Turns out the 3 way switch wasn't making contact in the neck position. One of these cheapo jobs.

Once I changed this out for a good quality switchcraft one it was all then OK.
